Winston Jacob: Five Decades of Leadership, Consulting, and Global Impact

Winston Jacob is a certified, chartered, and accredited professional consultant with an extraordinary career spanning nearly fifty years, including more than three decades of professional service in Papua New Guinea. As Chairman of Selwin Consult Ltd and former Ambassador of the Global University for Lifelong Learning (USA), he has built a reputation as a respected global management consultant, leadership mentor, and organizational strategist. His work reflects a deep commitment to professional excellence, institutional development, and lifelong learning across international platforms.

Over the course of his career, he has accumulated extensive experience in organizational development, human resource management, research, and strategic planning. Earlier in his professional journey, he served with the Papua New Guinea Rural Development Bank as Principal Appraiser and Consultant, where his primary responsibility involved strengthening organizational structures and improving operational performance. Through his work as a management consultant, he has successfully revived both large and small organizations, guiding them through restructuring processes that restored financial stability and long-term profitability.

Beyond consulting, he has played a significant role in professional training and leadership development across multiple countries. He has trained managers, executives, and directors globally, focusing on building strategic thinking, ethical leadership, and organizational effectiveness. His commitment to professional development is reflected in his association with several prestigious international bodies. He is a founder member of the PNG Institute of Directors and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Directors. In addition, he holds memberships and fellowships with the Commonwealth Association of Corporate Governance, the Commonwealth Association of Public Administration and Management (Canada), the International Coach Federation, the Australian Human Resource Institute, and several international institutes of management.

His contribution extends well beyond the corporate world into social and community leadership. He has served on the boards of more than fourteen organizations, demonstrating his strong commitment to governance and public service. He previously held the position of National Chairman of the Papua New Guinea Red Cross Society and also served as International Commissioner for the Scout Association of Papua New Guinea. Furthermore, he contributed to the governance framework of the Asia-Pacific region through his involvement with the World Scout Bureau, including participation in the Governance Review Task Force and regional financial committees. These roles highlight his ability to combine professional expertise with humanitarian and community-focused initiatives.

His distinguished service has been widely recognized at both national and international levels. He was awarded the title of Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) by Her Majesty the Queen, following a recommendation from the Government of Papua New Guinea, in recognition of his significant contributions to management and humanitarian service. In addition, he received the Scout Friendship Award from the Japanese Government and has been recognized as a United Nations Ambassador for World Peace and Love, further reflecting the global impact of his work.

In addition to his leadership roles, he continues to remain actively involved in professional and academic platforms. He is associated with various international organizations such as Mission Impossible Leadership, the Asia Regional Training and Development Organisation, the Centre for Leadership, and the International Management Centres Association as an academic partner.
